Michael Marie Schofield

Michael Marie is a funerary artisan, providing families across Michigan with beautifully crafted baskets made from willow grown on her farmstead, as well as plants collected during restoration efforts on public land. She typically has a selection of finished baskets available, but also welcomes the opportunity to create custom baskets filled with meaningful personalizations.

Families are invited to participate in the weaving process—no experience is required. For those traveling from out of town, accessible, private living quarters are offered at her farmstead, including a bedroom, bathroom, spacious living room, walk-in shower, and full kitchen at no extra cost. Michael believes that weaving these transitional baskets can be a deeply meaningful experience for individuals and their families.

All baskets are offered on a sliding scale to accommodate various financial situations, ensuring that those with greater means can help sustain those with less.
