About Compassion and Choices
Compassion and Choices Michigan is the local counterpart to the nation’s largest and most active nonprofit working to improve care, expand options, and empower everyone to have a voice in their end-of-life journey. We affirm life but also accept the inevitability of death, embracing expanded options for compassionate dying and empowering everyone to choose an end-of-life care plan that reflects their values, their priorities and their beliefs.
People facing their life’s end have several care options include Pursuing, Refusing or Discontinuing treatment. They can avail themselves of Palliative and/or Hospice care. Also, VSED, Voluntary Stopping Eating and Drinking, and Continuous Deep Sedation. In 11 jurisdictions, terminally ill patients also may request MAiD, Medical Aid in Dying.

Presentations
In an effort to advance accurate information and dispel the myths, Compassion and Choices Michigan offers free, community education presentations on end-of-life topics. We are available to speak at libraries, to faith based group,
in-home settings to small groups, senior centers, independent living places, cafes, etc.
Through our interactive presentations, Compassion and Choices members will detail the medical landscape in Michigan today, explain advanced directives and why everyone should complete theirs, review dementia’s nuances and explain medical-aid-in-dying. Presenters will guide participants through slightly humorous, thoughtful interactive questions and show a brief movie clip. Our Michigan Action Team members are trained to present clear, accurate information about end-of-life autonomy and equally important, clarify any preconceived misconceptions. We foster a comfortable atmosphere that promotes open dialogue for the audience. Relevant handouts are available as well as the opportunity to chat with our presenters.
